KCS line to Birmingham
Author: GN1969

In reading older Trains articles about the east/west MidSouth Rail franchise that KCS acquired in 1993 I saw there was a branch line that gave KCS access from Artesian, MS to Tuscaloosa and Brookwood in Alabama with rights continuing into Birmingham on the L&N. Is this line from Artesian still active on the present day CPKC?

From Artesia, MS to Columbus, MS is still owned by CPKC and from Columbus,MS to Brookwood, AL is Alabama Southern a Waco community.

There was a big stink at the ICC in 1950-52 when GM&O wanted to replace its trackage rights over IC and Southern into Birmingham from Corinth with trackage rights over the L&N from Tuscaloosa. I don't recall exactly when CSX sold off the segment between Tuscaloosa and Brookwood
