Eastern Railroad Discussion > NS Heritage Event / July 3, 2012

Well, it is pretty toasty in the Midwest today . . . . but no where near as hot as it was in North Carolina 13 years ago today.  Still, the Norfolk Southern 30th anniversary event was one outstanding time (a once-in-a-lifetime experience).  Really glad that my son and I made the trip from Indiana.  Attached are 2 images off an older model of an iPhone, so perhaps not the best resolution.  But everyone should recognize the pics.

Was anyone else on this Eastern RR forum at the NS heritage display on either July 3rd or July 4th in 2012?

I was with fellow railfan friends in that very semi-circle photo line for hours wilting in the sun/heat/humidity but getting there early meant we were in the very front, so we got to see each and every unit spun round on the turntable. Liked the "pageant" they had later too where they ran units past on yard tracks in good light one by one.

Thanks for the look back. Was glad I got to see them all in pristine condition before they were split up and buried in freight consists.

probably would’ve been diagnosed with skin cancer if i attended the event or would badly need long sleeves and a sun hat with lots of water

I was there, don't remember which day it was, but I remember we were all watching the parade of loco's and everyone's phone went off for a tornado warning, under completely clear skies.

I was there also and it was hot & humid. It was still uncomfortable at night taking photos.
