Eastern Railroad Discussion > Youngstown, Ohio - Former PRR (PY&A)Date: 07/05/25 08:24 Youngstown, Ohio - Former PRR (PY&A) Author: wa8pyr Anybody know who operates the former PRR from the junction with the NS Youngstown Line up through Girard, Niles and Warren?
Is it still NS or is it one of the lines now operated by G&W? Thanks, Tom WA8PYR Date: 07/06/25 09:31 Re: Youngstown, Ohio - Former PRR (PY&A) Author: farmer I’m going to say Youngstown Belt Railway part of the G&W

Looks like Youngstown Belt and NS with YB operating over a part of the NS. What's left is overgrown with weeds. Some crossings still had signals when I got stuck in Ohio a decade ago but many have now been removed. I don't foresee that stretch ever carrying traffic again, sadly.
W&LE subsidiary ABC continues to operate the Ravenna-Kent section at the moment with a few customers in both cities. The rest of the line into Akron is also weed grown with a trail next to it for most of the way. It's operated by the Warren and Trumbull and Youngstown Belt, aka G&W's Ohio Central out of Brier Hill (ex EL). The PY&A is a trail from just north of Warren to near Ashtabula. There was a section that remained active under NS to get ore trains from Ashtabula to WCI Steel in Warren, but that service ended in 2012 . Those trains used the former NYC Youngstown Line to Latimer where they used a connection to get on the former EL 2nd Sub ("Youngstown bypass") to a connection with the former PY&A in North Warren to get to the mill. Ohio Central did all the local switching in the Warren/North Warren area.
