HOT Day in Lake Erie Land
Author: train1275

Sunday July 6, 2025
Vemilion, OH
90 degrees, "feels like 100" according to AccuWeather.
Feels more like 110 according to me, and it is NOT a "Dry Heat"

We didn't spend much time out today. Here is what we saw.

1. The 28B took the Nickel Plate. We took the chance he would, and set up at Valley Harbor Marina (with permission) on the south side of the Vermilion River bridge. There he goes towards Lorain with NS 3613 and 4518 as power. The Marina is having a good 4th of July weekend and a good summer so far.

2. & 3. Work is progressing on the restoration of the 1909 built NKP 1155 caboose next to the NKP Vermilion depot. The 1882 built depot was relocated from trackside about 75 yards many years ago and preserved.

4. Train 11K (Croxton, NJ  - Elkhart, IN) passes CP 224 just west of town with NS 4697 and 9822 leading and NS 3638 as a mid train DPU. He's long, moving slow and working a heavy throttle.  It is interesting to check out what is in the train.

5. Reading, Blue Mountain & Northern hoppers.

6. KCS hoppers

10. A few minutes later Train 22H blasts by at speed with NS 1133 and 4609.

11. A classic Lyman boat coming in to dock from a cruise on the Lake.

I enjoy seeing those blue potash hoppers, they make for a nice splash of color
