Do most trains go via LaGrange or do any use the old AB&C / ACL route through Senoia ?

Most trains between Manchester and Atlanta will go the Manchester sub through Senoia. However most trains out of Manchester will go through LaGrange. Any intermodal that works Fairburn has to go through LaGrange. As of today there should be four regular manifest trains on the Manchester Sub. There are usually also another 2-6 oddball trains (coal, grain, phosphate, ethanol, etc.) that run that route.

Appreciate the good info. I see where going via LaGrange would help out the the new Savannah - Chicago intermodal which continues on via the W&A. I wonder if it has a counterpart southbound? I should have asked, but where in Atlanta is most of the manifest traffic being handled these days? Howells, the old SAL Yard?

Actually I195/196 (195 is sb, 196 is nb) I think take the Manchester sub since they don't have to work Fairburn. Though I think they've gone both ways. Yes, Howells is the yard in Atlanta now.

I am glad to see CSX making good improvements and getting some traffic back on the W&A. I hope that it does not get derailed by big money.

There are currently 4 scheduled road trains that are profiled to run the Manchester Sub:

I025 Bedford Park, IL - Jacksonville Moncrief, FL daily
M514 Waycross, GA - Nashville, TN daily
M541 Cincinnati, OH - Waycross, GA daily
M542 Waycross, GA - Cincinnati, OH daily

As mentioned, there are also occasional various unit trains that run that way.  Also, there are locals based in Union City that work the northern portion of the Sub.

Both I195 and I196 run the Lineville Sub between Manchester and Birmingham.

Not at the moment, I've seen them multiple times through Chattanooga. It's possible they are planned via Birmingham but are taking the Manchester Sub north because of a major curfew on the Lineville.

Are you sure you're not seeing the Memphis - Fairburn pair I154 / I155?

Does anyone know why these trains were rerouted off the former B&O from Washington DC?

The only guess I have is faster run time. I thought with that A-line to B&O routing they may be looking to get the Rocky Mount intermodal off the manifest freights and onto a dedicated intermodal schedule. But it sounds like eyes are on this run and the schedule is the priority so that would tell me Savannah to Chicago as quickly as possible is the goal.

Do you know if the train is still working North Baltimore or did the switch away from the B&O eliminate that, too?

Has to be. I bet CSX is beating NS between Savannah and Chicago now. I'll have to try and find the comparison when I get a chance.
