A few shots grabbed during the week here in Lake Erie Land
North Central Ohio

Monday October 27th:

1. A quick hike into downtown Vermilion and a very short 29P whizzes through with BNSF 4114 and 7451. Nothing but a cell phone with me today, it'll have to do.

Wednesday October 29th:

2 & 3. Amtrak 40 was running 4 hours and 40 minutes late this morning, and a few fans had been out waiting for it thinking it might be on time. They obviously had a long wait. As always, the morning light for westbound trains in these parts is tough. Amtrak 63 leads the 307 on a typical consist bound for Chicago. I heard something about an incident in Winterhaven, FL was the cause of the delay, but don't know for sure or just what happened.

4. The Floridian's markers disappear to the west.

5. Later in the morning I hike over to Vermilion Road wondering which line the 28B will go today; NKP or Lake Shore line. I am standing on the overpass over the NKP as Train 60W, a load of frac sand out of Bensenville, IL bound for Waynesburg, PA comes by on the Lake Shore line crossing. Power is NS 4779 and 4524.

6. Well the next eastbound is the 28B, sadly it is not on the NKP, but a straight through run today on the Lake Shore line. I'm standing on the overpass and looking down the road to grab a shot. Power is NS 4917 and 4163 as they head to Buffalo, NY. Just across the tracks to the right was the location of the Lake Shore Electric interurban Station Stop 128; Crystal Beach, which served an amusement park on the shore of the lake.

7. Wednesday ends with incoming clouds over Lake Erie in the Back-40. In a few hours it will be raining. Thursday here in Vermilion was just wave after wave of monsoon rain. I didn't go out.

Friday October 31st - Halloween

8. It's sunny again, the rain and high winds have passed, and temps are in the 50's. It's nice but blustery. Here we see NS 4481 leading 3626 on loaded coal train 776 out of Shire Oaks, PA bound for North Carolina. This is the NKP bridge at MP 229.10 over Berlin Road just east of Shinrock and south of Huron. This area along Old Woman Creek was hit hard during the flood of 1969 necessitating a slight relocation of the road and this new overpass. 

9. Back up to the Lake Shore line at Coen Road west of Vermilion and our first catch of Train 202 the new afternoon intermodal through these parts. It's been on the schedule now about 2 weeks or so replacing our trusty 22H. Like 22H, it will sometimes have Tesla autoracks on the rear. 22H came out of 63rd Street Chicago to Harrisburg, PA while 202 comes out of Ashland Ave. Yard Chicago and goes all the way to Croxton, NJ. Power on 202 is NS 4556, 9962 and 4877.
