Watching the Train Go By - Train 10Q - Lake Erie Land
Author: train1275

Saturday Saturday November 1, 2025
North Central Ohio
Sunny (mostly) with Temps in the mid-50's and a little breeze

1. & 2. Well it is November 1st, where has the year gone? Still, it is pretty mild in this part of the world. The first catch is at Joppa Road west of Vermilion on the Lake Shore line and it is 6K4, loaded ethanol from Ashland Avenue Yard Chcago to Sewarren, NJ. Power is BNSF 5501 and 6710.

3. Then we drop down to the NKP at Kimball, just on the east end of Bellevue Yard. There is a headlight down there, and it is 10Q coming out heading for Conway, PA (Pittsburgh). The 10Q originates in Bellevue.

4. - 6. It is really a nice day, and we will take in the sights and sounds of 10Q as it passes by here. Kimball, former NKP telegraph call HI, was where the B&O from Willard to Sandusky crossed. Today it is where the NKP goes to single iron towards Vermilion and Lorain. Power on 10Q, which is pretty long today is; NS 4180 solo up front and NS 7662 and 4437 as mid train DPU's. He's going really slow getting a roll-by.

7. - 9. 10Q coming through getting the roll by. In the consist is one of the frequently seen RBMN hoppers; RBMN 10108. That AEI Reader case by the RBMN hopper is approximately where the B&O / NKP diamond was located.

13. - 14. The mid train DPU's; NS 7662 and 4437.

15. An old Comet Rice hopper, now ITFX 51311. First time I can ever remember seeing one of these.

We did'n't catch another thing the rest of the day, so that's a wrap.

Really appreciate the detail re origin/destination of NS trains.  Unlike UP and BNSF with alpha symbols, without a cheat sheet, it's impossible to know what you are looking at.

Thanks.
