Eastern Railroad Discussion > How do NS trains from Conway get to Chattanooga?Date: 11/30/25 16:28 How do NS trains from Conway get to Chattanooga? Author: twropr Noting that NS has signals on the fort Wayne Line from Alliance, PA to Crestline, OH, I wonder what trains would actually run over that segment?
There is a pair of Conway-Chattanooga trains - any other possibilities? Also, would a Conway-Bellevue train go up to Cleveland, the go on the Cloggsville Connection to proceed west on the former NKP? Thanks Andy Date: 11/30/25 18:05 Re: How do NS trains from Conway get to Chattanooga? Author: sync 170/171 I believe is the pair.
Chattanooga, Cincinnati, Columbus (requires a run around move I think, in watkins yard). Then they turn the corner at Bucyrus and take the Fort Wayne line running via Mansfield and Canton. Date: 11/30/25 19:08 Re: How do NS trains from Conway get to Chattanooga? Author: DJ-12 sync Wrote:

I’d be curious if these trains work at Canton and Mansfield or if there is some sort of roadswitcher that ferries local cars out to those points. Both 170 and 171 change crews at Mansfield. 170 is prolfed to work Canton and 171 is profiled to work both Canton and Mansfield. ------------------------------------------------------- Also, would a Conway-Bellevue train go up to Cleveland, the go on the Cloggsville Connection to proceed west on the former NKP? I still get muddled up with Cleveland, so if I stick my foot in my mouth, please correct me. Trains coming out of Conway cannot access the Cloggsville Connection which is for westbound NKP traffic to connect over to the Lake Shore line near Rockport Yard east of Berea. NKP westbound trains can either take the Cloggsville and run NKP to Vermilion and onto Bellevue or switch over to the Lake Shore line at Vermilion and head for Toledo and Chicago. This gets traffic off hte NKP on the west side of Cleveland where there are many grade crossings and neighborhoods. Conway - Bellevue Trains use the east-leg connector at Vermilion. They come off the C&P near the Cleveland Amtrak and onto the Lake Shore line and proceed west to Vermilion to CP 222 to the east-leg connector and onto the NKP at GC for the run to Bellevue. |
