Eastern Railroad Discussion > Reading and Northern Pittston - Jim Thorpe trips with the 1776Date: 11/30/25 16:45 Reading and Northern Pittston - Jim Thorpe trips with the 1776 Author: sscannella A few more pics and a video of SD-40 1776 that the Reading, Blue Mountain and Northern painted up for our Semiquincentenial. After an OCS trip out of Tamaqua, PA last week, then spending last weekend in Jim Thorpe, the engine made its way to the former Lehigh Valley yard in Pittston, PA (between Scranton and Wilkes-Barre), and powered the PIJT passenger trains to Jim Thorpe on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was probably the best day for photography with a sunny sky for parts of the trip. Here we see it at Pittston then at McAlpine Street in Avoca, PA

Thanks for posting Sam. I should get my butt in gear and see some of these things for myself. But they are 3 hours away and I'm getting old and lazy. Since the kids grew up and flew the nest the motivation is minimal, heck I don't even try to catch the NS Heritage locos that pass about 200 feet from my home. While I can't see them from the house a 5 minute drive would position me in a clear location. The word Octogenarian is scary! I'll be one in a few weeks. Be Well!
