Most excellent. I lived a lot beautiful Raleigh nights, but that is special and serene.

An amazing shot!! General point that I want to make for any sort of railroad photography-sometimes the best photos of anything railroad related are the right of way without a train in view.

It's been a long day, so it took me a minute to realize where this was....
Raleigh, NC - we are looking at the Eastbound (NS) . Northbound (CSX) signals at NS's CP Boylan.
On the far right is CSX, Main 1 (Raleigh -Hamlet S Line)
To the left of that is NS Main 2 (Goldsboro -Greensboro NC Line)

The two left most tracks are "the pass track" adjacent to The NC State Prision /Correctional Facility.

Thanks for posting /sharing.

The long-gone Boylan Tower was just out of frame on the right, and the track crossing at an acute angle is the "original NS" main line, now operated by RJ Corman's Raleigh & Fayetteville. The curved connecting track from the original NS used to be tied into the ex-SAL; it provided access to the 1890 Union Station for passenger trains of the original NS. After Southern acquired the original NS, the connection was changed to tie into Southern/NCRR. Central Prison, the state's high-security facility, is in the upper left.
