Eastern Railroad Discussion > Looking like a refugee from CNDate: 02/19/26 18:11 Looking like a refugee from CN Author: scraphauler ACWR's roster has 15 ACTIVE units on it - 9 SD40-3, 3 SD60F, and 1 each E9, F9, F7B. The E and Fs wear the passenger magenta and yellow, and 8 of the SD40-3s wear the attractive green and cream. Today's local to/from CSX Aberdeen NC featured none of those attractive units. Instead, we get a vastly overpowered train with 2 of the 3 active SD60Fs and the only patched SD40-3. Seen here passing the house in Pinehurst headed to CSX with 3 loads of lightweight aggregate, 3 empty plastic, an empty sand, 2 empty scrap metal, and an empty soybean meal. An hour and a half later it returns with 2 loads of DDG, 2 loads of paper, 3 loads of sand, and a load of soybean meal.

Thanks! Gonut Date: 02/19/26 19:58 Re: Looking like a refugee from CN Author: scraphauler Gonut1 Wrote:

Dried mash - corn, yeast, other grains are made into a slurry (mash) that is cooked for the alcohol, be it for human consumption or ethanol. The cooked mash is then dried and ground then sold as animal feed - poultry, cattle, hog, etc. Likewise, soybean meal is the "meal" left over after soybeans are crushed for oil. Poultry feed mills down here use copious quantities of corn, soybean meal, and DDG, plus more limited amounts of sunflower seed and flax seed. Those that feed layers (egg producing birds) also add lime to help in egg shell production. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/19/26 20:30 by scraphauler.
