SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Emergency crews were responding to a train derailment in Scranton’s West Side on Wednesday afternoon.Crews were called to the area behind ID Logistics in the Stauffer Industrial Park around 1:30 p.m.Several train cars and a locomotive are reported to be off the tracks on the Erie-Lackawanna Railway line. Officials say the locomotive was leaking diesel fuel, but it has been isolated.A representative from the railroad and Lackawanna County EMA are responding. A total of 10 cars were being hauled at the time of the incident. No hazardous products are reported to be on the train. One Scranton fire spokesperson tells 28/22 News the locomotive’s fuel tank had roughly 2,500 gallons of diesel fuel when the derailment occurred. First responders were able to slow the spilling fuel quickly. Scranton Fire Department tells 28/22 News the fuel is believed to not to have leaked into any nearby waterways.According to crews on the scene, the locomotive was carrying wine towards Scranton.Reading & Northern Railroad are on scene investigating what caused the derailment, as well as what caused the fuel to begin leaking.Traffic in the area is not impacted and there is no word yet on what caused the derailment. And prior to EL, it was the DL&W's Keyser Valley branch, location of anthracite mines and the DL&W's car shops that built the Lackawanna cabooses from retired steam locomotive tenders.

There's the problem right there. Engineer was probably doing some wine tasting. Date: 03/05/26 09:15 Re: Derailment Reading & Northern - Scranton Author: callum_out Hopefully it was in a separate tank from the diesel.
Out Date: 03/05/26 12:25 Re: Derailment Reading & Northern - Scranton Author: coach Probably LINEAGE insulated boxcars. Poor LINEAGE has had alot of cars lately derail. On my last count, they've lost about 15-18 cars. That's gotta hurt with their smaller fleet.
