Eastern Railroad Discussion > South Jersey FA and other Alcos meeting the torchDate: 04/02/26 08:39 South Jersey FA and other Alcos meeting the torch Author: cjvrr Long stored Alco FA and C420s and FB units are getting cut up at this time.
Photos taken today. At least two of the FA locomotives were saved and moved offsite. Date: 04/02/26 09:34 Re: South Jersey FA and other Alcos meeting the torch Author: cjvrr Date: 04/02/26 09:35 Re: South Jersey FA and other Alcos meeting the torch Author: refarkas How terribly sad.

Date: 04/02/26 12:27 Re: South Jersey FA and other Alcos meeting the torch Author: Topfuel This is a very unfortunate situation. But I believe the owners of this equipment have had quite some time to get them all moved to another location. Not sure why it never happened.

Date: 04/02/26 17:47 Re: South Jersey FA and other Alcos meeting the torch Author: mvrr10 Last fall the " Friends of the SP&S "was raising money ( $80K ) to save three SP&S units from being scrapped in New Jersey , they had until December 1 ,2025 to raise the funds . The SP&S units were FA's 857 and 858 , the FB was 210 . There were also ex CN/VIA FPA and FPB's I think .

Not sure of the history of the units other than Erie Mining on the c420s and the FA units all came from the Long Island Railroad when last in service. There is an older sting on Trainorders that lists the detailed history of each. I am using my phone to post this so hard for me to find the old thread. While the locos could have been moved the W&W/Omnitrax would not move them for almost a year and a half ! . Units too old the track they were on is too bad to move them were the reasons given. The sand plant had more business and needed the track . They were offered for sale for almost a year with only the one FA2 at SMS getting sold. Sad to see but even after the units were sold to the scrapper and they offered the units for sale no response as they realized they could get more for complete units rather than scrap . The original owners ( I was one of them ) owned them for 38 years and kept them alive . At least the two FA2 and one FA1 and FB1 were saved . The one FA1 and the FPB2 and the FPB4 and the two RS 11's were not . The PRR N5 offered for sale which had solid bearing trucks and could not be moved by rail will also be cut up. Again no offers . Sad to see . --- Ken

I made a long detour from my trip to NJ to find these Alcos, now I'm glad I did. In November I heard they were going to scrapped, but its still sad to see it actually happening. Thanks to cjvrr for making the effort to get these photos.
