CSX CEO Said Company ‘fell short’ of 2025 Goals
Author: pt199

 CSX President and CEO Steve Angel said his company “fell short” of expectations in 2025 but is seeking a stronger performance this year. The comments were made in the company’s annual report released this week. During 2025 CSX had revenue of $14.1 billion, which was down 3 percent from 2024.

The operating margin was 32.1 percent and earnings per diluted share were $1.54. The report attributed revenue declines to lower export coal revenue, reduced merchandise volumes and lower fuel recovery. Those were partly offset by merchandise pricing gains and higher intermodal volumes.

 During 2025 CSX completed the rebuilding of the Howard Street Tunnel in Baltimore to enable the passage of double-stacked container trains. Some additional clearance work will be completed in the tunnel this year. Other 2025 milestones included:
  • Rebuilding 60 miles of track in its Blue Ridge Subdivision after Hurricane Helene flooding.
  • Completing the 75th Street flyover in Chicago, eliminating a key bottleneck in the city;
  • Adding 85 new or expanded rail-served facilities to its network.
  • Improving its Federal Railroad Administration personal injury frequency index by 24 percent, from 1.23 reportable employee injuries per 200,000 worked hours in 2024 to 0.94 in 2025.
  • Improving its FRA train accident rate by 13 percent, from 3.54 accidents per 1 million train miles in 2024 to 3.08 in 2025.

Well of course they did - they were unable to find a merger partner to buy them out.

"Reduced merchandise volumes" says it all.  Good money lost to the trucks.  Time for CSX to get real, and get aggressive.  The new CEO sucks--the previous one was much, much better, and I say that as a shareholder.

Counterpoint: many UP stockholders, with busy lives to lead, really don't care about any of that as long as the stock price goes up. No use owning a stock if it doesn't make money........
