Eastern Railroad Discussion > A red and silver warbonnet and other catches - Lake Erie LandDate: 04/08/26 12:33 A red and silver warbonnet and other catches - Lake Erie Land Author: train1275 Wednesday April 8, 2026
Vermilion, OH 34 degrees this morning and chilly sitting out in the wind, warmed to 54 and sunny this afternoon 1. Train 6K4 the Chicago Ashland Avenue to Sewaren, NJ ethanols come slowly east through the 25 mph slow order with KCSM 4064 and CP 8865. 2. Then 39N is westbound on Track 1 with NS 4236 and 1811 moving the merchandise from Conway, PA to Decatur, IL. 3. A heron flies overhead. Date: 04/08/26 12:39 Re: A red and silver warbonnet and other catches - Lake Erie Land Author: train1275 4. NS 1147 and 7685 are eastbound on 60E, frac sand from Chicago going to Mingo Jct., OH
5. A Robin gets some sun while looking for worms. 6. And the catch of the day goes to the 28B which is a triple surprise. It is a week day and the 28B is on the NKP, it has a red and silver warbonnet and the RV campers have still not occupied their sites so this shot is still possible. NS 4585 leads BNSF 754 with intermodals going from Chicago to Buffalo, NY. Date: 04/08/26 12:41 Re: A red and silver warbonnet and other catches - Lake Erie Land Author: train1275 7. & 8. Enjoying the 28B with the BNSF 754 crossing the Vermilion River on the NKP line.
9. Two geese kill time in the river. They seem bored today. Date: 04/08/26 12:46 Re: A red and silver warbonnet and other catches - Lake Erie Land Author: train1275 10. This morning I had walked to the docks, and on the way stopped to read this plaque about the former amusement park at Crystal Beach, now long gone. Back in the day you could ride the Lake Shore Electric interurban from Sandusky or Cleveland for example and the park was a quick walk away.

JG Date: 04/09/26 04:38 Re: A red and silver warbonnet and other catches - Lake Erie Land Author: JPB Great picture of the LSE interurban - I'm no LSE Railway or trolley expert but it looks like one of the MU-capable Nile cars with arched windows and clerestory roof. Apparently the Illinois Railway Museum has LSE car #150 that has been partially restored and painted:
Lake Shore Electric 150 at IRM And I think LSE #149 is at the Northern Ohio Railway Museum but I don't know what level of restoration it is at: Lake Shore Electric 149 at NORM Lastly appaarently on April 28, a talk "Retracing the Lake Shore Electric Railway" talk is being given in Sandusky: Retracing the lake Shore Electric Railway Good stuff!
