Eastern Railroad Discussion > Lake Erie Land - A Few Recent CatchesDate: 04/30/26 12:44 Lake Erie Land - A Few Recent Catches Author: train1275 Thursday April 30, 2026
Vermilion, OH 47 degrees this morning, overcast and rain in the morning 1. - 3. On Tuesday April 28th, the 28B took the Nickel Plate Route east of town and I caught it at KM (Kishman's). Power was NS 4501 and 4025. Yup, 4501 and it wasn't a steam locomotive. Date: 04/30/26 12:48 Re: Lake Erie Land - A Few Recent Catches Author: train1275 4. Today we are back at KM as it was a surprise 29P taking the NKP west. This doesn't happen very often. Power on this train is NS 4757 and 7515 and he's moving !
5. Then heading down to the Vermilion Docks and finding a new family. 6. After a short wait the 10Q (Bellevue to Conway) comes east over the Lake Shore line bridge with NS 4679 up front and NS 4087 as a mid-train DPU. Behind the power in tow are HZRX 6069 and 1133. A look at the HZRX 6059, an ex CN SD40-2 and the 1133, an ex CSX MP15AC.
8. NS 4087, the mid train DPU. 9. In the consist is AEX 36183 a GLC covered hopper. What is GLC ? Anyone know?? Great Lakes Carbon ? Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 04/30/26 13:10 by train1275. Date: 04/30/26 12:58 Re: Lake Erie Land - A Few Recent Catches Author: train1275 10. And carrying the markers on the 10Q is QTTX 130719, a heavy duty drop center flat car.
11. Moving to the Rail Park off Main Street is a catch of 15K (Conway, PA to Bellevue, OH). It's heavy overcast, raining and like shooting into a big black hole. Power is NS 7673 and KCS 4000. 12. It always pays to watch the train by and pay attention. Here is an old relic box car from a long ago fallen flag, ex Lake Erie, Franklin & Clarion now SGLR 7227. And that's it for now. I went home after the 15K went by as the light and cold rain was just too sucky. Of course about an hour later it turned into a beautiful afternoon. Edited 1 time(s). GLC is Great Lakes Central, and it was taken over by Watco late last year. Date: 04/30/26 17:11 Re: Lake Erie Land - A Few Recent Catches Author: bath_wildcat GLC is Great Lakes Central up here that was taken over by Watco. it remains to be seen up here whether the PM 1225 will run on those tracks for the North Pole Express train.

Another batch of Goeslings! Around here it is usual to find several new families sauntering across local backroads. Somehow they figure they have a God given Right-of-Way and can go about this in a very, very slow manner. Of course most, but not all motorists respect that dubious right and wait for the road to clear but there are those insistant motorists with missions from God that deem it necessary to squish them into road kill at 55 MPH. I admit it is tempting to plow them down once you step onto a bunch of green goose poop. Gonut Date: 05/01/26 04:09 Re: Lake Erie Land - A Few Recent Catches Author: dschlegel Good stuff! I wonder the heritage of that MP15AC prior to CSX.
