Eastern Railroad Discussion > A Quick Chase In VermontDate: 04/30/26 15:27 A Quick Chase In Vermont Author: pennsy3750 It had been a number of years since my last chase over Vermont Rail System's scenic Green Mountain Sub, so last week when an opportunity presented itself, I took it. Priority #1 was the high bridge at Cuttingsville; I missed that shot by less than five minutes on my last trip up there in 2018, which had been irritating me ever since so I made sure to get out of the house early. A little chilly, and the gusty wind meant the drone didn't get much action, but all in all it was good day to see red power in the Green Mountains.
1 - A quick stop in Bellows Falls, where a thick fog was still burning off in the Connecticut River valley. In this view the local switch crew was headed across the river into New Hampshire to grab some cars from New England Central's North Walpole siding. VRS predecessor Rutland once had a turntable and small roundhouse crammed into the grassy area to the left, where the three utility poles are now. 2 - Success at Cuttingsville. I heard a horn a minute or two after I got out of the car, with good light and a good leader. I didn't quite have time to get video rolling or get the drone in the air, so I'll need to do it again. 3 - Rolling along at Mt Holly, with four EMDs leading 44 cars. I sent the drone over to the sunny side while I watched from the road. Date: 04/30/26 15:29 Re: A Quick Chase In Vermont Author: pennsy3750 4 - Passing Chester Depot.
5 - Heading back west now, climbing past Parker Hill Road in Rockingham a couple miles out of Bellows Falls. 6 - Passing through a fallow cornfield on the east side of Chester. I was only in that part of Vermont and iI was probably 12-14 years old. So that would have been 1958-60 or so. If I recall correctly we were there when the Rutland was on strike which lead to its bankruptcy. We did not see any rail action, Bah! But it all looks about the same.
