Eastern Railroad Discussion > Daylight (sorta) Amtrak in Lake Erie LandDate: 05/01/26 08:25 Daylight (sorta) Amtrak in Lake Erie Land Author: train1275 Friday May 1, 2026
Vermilion, OH @ 8:42 AM 45 degrees, light rain and heavy thick overcast Amtrak Train 40, the "Floridian" that comes westbound through these parts, usually in the middle of the night, was 5 hours late today so we had a daylight Amtrak. .... sorta. Technically it was daylight, but the clouds were so thick that it might as well have been dark. Jack up the ISO, open up the aperature and put the shutter way down in the corner and hope. Hanging out at Grand Street Crossing and here it comes at close to the 79 mph limit. Amtrak 344 and 368 are the power and there is a deadheading baggage car up front. Edited 3 time(s). I forget which series it is, but any car that goes to Beech Grove for servicing comes back this scheme. > > Here is the consist: > > Power: 344-368 > > Baggage: 61005 d/h > Coaches: 25091, 25039, 25051, 25096 > Café: 28015 > Diner: 68020 “Providence” > Sleepers: 62043 “New River”, 62021 “Elkhart > River”, 62524 “Westfield River” > Baggage: 61018 > Date: 05/02/26 08:03 Re: Daylight (sorta) Amtrak in Lake Erie Land Author: mvrr10 Thanks for the photos and consist information . The 61018 is in the phase VII scheme that the bags started to receive this year . 62043 New River is one of two Viewliner I sleepers that were painted in the retro phase III stripes 2014-2015 ; the other was Croton River - but it has received the phase VI stripe but retaining its name . ( These two cars came out of Beech Grove wearing the "River" series name in place of the of the "View" series , then were nameless for awhile in between .) Also as of this time the 62524 is the only phase VII sleeper , also the last Viewliner II car delivered to Amtrak in August 2021 .
