3 to cool you off on a hot day in western PA
Author: DJ-12

As we brace for the hottest day so far this year, let's go back just 6 month to the coldest and snowiest winter we have had in our neck of the woods in quite a long time. Hope these 3 help you cool off on a hot day...
1. The URR 76 crew has a trainload of hot slabs on the move up heading up the grade towards the Irvin works in a December snow squall this past winter.
2. In late January, winter's icy grip was in full swing as the Allegheny Valley Railroad's AVR-6 crew departs Glenwood yard through the reverse curves leading to Marion Jct. with the daily transfer un to NS.
3. Early February was a true deep freeze in PA as temps barely nudged above zero for nearly a week. We ventured deep into the mountains from the Station Inn to capture an RJ Corman Grain train heading towards Clearfield through the tiny hamlet of Westover, where there was enough snow on the ground that snowmobiles were plying the streets.

Winter will be back soon enough! Thanks for looking!

Great bunch, the slab moves are not long for this world as within 3 years USS will complete the new hot strip mill at Braddock...

Even in winter the Allegheny Valley keeps its equipment very clean.  Like its sister lines.
