Eastern Railroad Discussion > CN over the Allegheny RiverDate: 07/04/26 12:26 CN over the Allegheny River Author: JUTower Last weekend, coming home on the PA Turnpike, I caught a glimpse of hopper cars moving at North Bessemer Yard. As I approached the Allegheny Valley exit, I also saw the "high green" signal at RIVER lined for the impending northbound move. I talked my kids into making a brief detour so I could drone the train, and within about 5 minutes the two CN SD70M-2s were seen rumbling across this awesome bridge. I then remembered that the train probably had at least one trailing DPU unit, so, I flew to the other side to get a pretty neat backlit/silhouette shot. Enjoy!

Date: 07/06/26 22:40 Re: CN over the Allegheny River Author: coach Love the old BESSEMER sign on the bridge, and the beautiful, solid masonry work on the bridge piers! Perfect taper--all done by hand. Amazing. Those stone blocks withstand Mother Nature amazingly well vs. concrete. Compare these piers to crumbling concrete viaducts elsewhere.
