I've been spending more time up at The Station Inn, getting things ready for the Big Boy's visit on July 11. Last Sunday morning I finally caught a break and was able to get the drone up in the air for a few interesting moves. Thanks to Josh H. for some of the "heads ups"!

7. 50K receding over the summit.  The SD70ACu helpers are being replaced by SD70ACes now. Time marches on!

Looking at the switches here in these photos--lots of extended crossovers.

Question:  why not put in straight crossovers, like they do in big passenger terminals like Chicago, where once the train diverges, it's a "straight shot" all the way across to its intended track?  Here, you diverge, straighten out, then diverge again, then straighten out.....seems like a much slower and riskier way to make a move.  Straight line it and speed up the process.  It seems it would be safer, less stressful on the train (and engineer) and faster.

There used to be a helper maintenance facility in Cresson. Hence, more switches were needed....
