Eastern Railroad Discussion > Is CN running freight between Memphis and New Orleans?

Due to the "track issues" on CN's former IC between Carbondale ad New Orleans, Amtrak has not operated
the City of New Orleans at all since June 26.  Are freights still running, and if so, are there any detours?

I understand the issues were on the old passenger main between Woodstock, TN and the passenger station in downtown Memphis. Only a few local freight trains use this branch. Corrections welcome.

That track needs to be redone no matter what yall say! Wife and I took CONO back to chicago to get the wolverine home. Talk about a ride. ran 80MPH, watched the diner car tilt at a 45 degree angle, while hetting my head DONKED on the dang sink!

CN won't care until they are made to care.  After a derailment occurs, then they will care.
Reminds me of a conversation with one of their business car stewards some years ago who lamented that ride quality was terrible and hoped Hunter Harrison would ride some night down to New Orleans.

Hopefully, Amtrak and FRA test cars have been and will continue to over this territory, with results recorded and shared.

CN is always looking for something, so use this information over their head as needed leverage.
