Vermilion, OH Temps in the low 80's 1. & 2. We'll start out with 23G at Joppa Road west of town on Tuesday August 18th with NS 9898, 4741, 4398, 9829 and 7583. He's starting into the curve where the old ties are piled on the approach to the crossing. 3. Looking out back as the Algoma Bear slides by going down lake to Cleveland. Edited 2 time(s). Wednesday the 19th we are at Beaver Park Marina west of Lorain on the Nickel Plate as a woodchuck, (or is it a Ground Hog ?) is trying to detect a train.
5. He does not have long to wait as 315 comes west with NS 8066 and 2026. 6. A neat look at the 2026 trailing, but it is a little too shiny. He'll pull up to Helen Drive and stop, we'll go home. Moving ahead to today, 28B comes over the New York Central Vermilion River bridge, and past the 250th flag in Vermilion at Romps Marina. Power is NS 4191 and 7655.

11. Then 29P comes west with NS 4169 and 4744. 12. The 260 is late today with the intermodals from Chicago to Bethlehem, PA trailing behind NS 4771 and 8104, the Lehigh Valley heritage unit. 14. Now it is 11N's turn as he is slowly moving west on Track 1 after departing Fairlane CP 219. Power is NS 4028 up front and NS 1816 as a mid-train DPU. 15. He disappears to the west, and 44M rolls east with midwest grain for Salisbury, MD on the Delmarva Central. Power is NS 4414 and 4303. Train 310 makes way from Elkhart, IN to East Binghamton, NY, almost all sand today behind NS 4878 and 8069 up front and NS 4434 as a rear DPU.
17. & 18. Finally 15K comes in on Track 2 for the east-leg connector and Bellevue with NS 8118 and 4020 doing the honors. Quite a bit of 250th theme going on here lately. Somehow the star on the side reminds of something Bi-Centennial, maybe the Rock Island star on the 652?

In eastern PA those of us that know a bit of the PA Dutch dialect would call that critter a Grundsau, there’s even organizations around here that are dedicated to preserving the PA Dutch culture called Grundsau Lotsches or Groundhog Lodges. They meet once a year for a wonderful banquet and program that is entirely conducted in the dialect, I’ve attended every year since about 2000. Good stuff! Dan Posted from iPhone |
