While in Indiana this weekend for some NKP 765 action, thanks to a tip-off from a friend, I was able to catch the CSX Track Geometry Train parked at Auburn Junction on the old B&O. Not a bad looking train!

There is a former Southern Pacific Sunset Limited Baggage Dorm,

a former Union Pacific 44 seat coach, Budd 1960

a former PRR 18 Roomette sleeping car converted to a coach in anticipation of increased coach travel demands for the 1965 Worlds Fair, in NY.

Was its most recent life a MARC commuter coach ?

Great photos of a great looking train, in the colors of the great Baltimore and Ohio Railroad passenger cars.  Many of us are wondering what CSX will be doing, if anything, to celebrate the 200th Birthday of the B&O?  Lot's of rumors but nothing to substantiate a special a birthday train.  Who really knows?  CSX is keeping this to themselves.

I believe the PRR sleepers from which this car was adapted (after coach conversion) were 21 roomette cars, named in the "Inn series."   There were 50 of them in the series, and many survive on heritage railroads and excursion lines, after years in first corridor and then commuter service as coaches.

Thanks for taking the roster shots.  Note the plated-over roofs on two of these Budd-built cars.  Not sure that is at all necessary, but Budd cars 75 +/- years down the road can sometimes have leaky roofs.  So maybe that is why this was done.

OK, almost impossible, but they have the passenger cars, just need the steam loco. How about 614!

That's an interesting observation.  I think in MARC service these locomotives had an exemption from ditch lights because of the oscillating light.  Now #6999 has both.  Gerry

The CSX TGC-3 test train was built by the crafstmen at Gateway Rail Services, Inc. in Madison, Illinois!
