Eastern Railroad Discussion > B&O specs.

hey everyone. The railroad i work for owns 3 EX B&O SD40-2s.

being the history guy that i am i have a few questions.  one for example is what kind of horn would have come standard on a B&O SD40? (i would like to get them wearing the origianl style of horn again)
does anyone know what i should be looking for? im thinking the order sheet. how many were ordered?

They appear to have the K5LA horn that later orders of GP40-2's also had. This is a 5-chime horn.

they had k5s when built in 1969? or did they get k5s when rebuilt to -2s?

Former numbers will be needed. Later order in the 7600 series came with K5LA. These were true SD40-2s. If you're talking SD40s rebuilt to SD40-2s by CSX (8300/8400s) those likely had Leslie S-3L when delivered.

orignally built 7497-7498-7499 later renumbered to the 7597-7598-7599 they are now CRRX (Cañon City & Royal Gorge)  601-602-603 renumbered to the 600s by the escalante western railroad.
