Vermilion, OH
Mixed sun and clouds, much cooler this week.

Saturday August 22nd

1. At Valley Harbor Marina in Vermilion on the NKP catching the 28B with BNSF 3858 and 5021 and getting cloud bombed.

2. & 3. Moving west along the NKP to Shinrock and finding 44M, midwest grain to Salisbury, MD with NS 4003 and 4353. The branch to Huron is visible at far right in image #2.

4. 44M comes through Shinrock passing CP "Barrows".

5. & 6. Up to the Lake Shore line and 23G storms west by CP 224 at Risden Road west of Vermilion with NS 9901, 7593 and 4806. In Images #2 and #3 the west-leg connector to the NKP is clearly visible.

Sunday August 23rd.

7. Loaded Coal, Train 776, Shire Oaks, PA to Hyco, NC rolls west at Stanley Road west of Vermilion on the NKP bound for Bellevue and points south. Power is NS 4622 and 8079.

8. & 9. The 776 will meet Train 921 at Shinrock. Here we see the 921 moving a CWR train east approaching "Barrows" or as it was historically known, East Shinrock. Power is NS 1165, and the rail is new 136RE rolled at SDI out near Fort Wayne, IN. This crew will take it over to the Lake Shore line's Fairlane Yard where it will reverse direction and go west towards Sandusky. I don't know exactly where they unloaded it.

10. NW 517038, the business end of the CWR train.

Tuesday, August 25th 

11. Sunset on Lake Erie, and the tug-barge "Dorothy Ann" makes way up lake to Marblehead for a load of stone to take to Lorain. Typical scene from life here in Lake Erie Land.

Thursday August 27th

12. Checking out the beginning of the lunar eclipse. A shadow is just starting to form about 8 ''o' clock. I went out later but  ... well it was like shooting into a dark hole since the moon was in eclipse and it didn't work out too well.

Friday August 28th
This morning I got the ambition to walk the 2 mile round-trip to the Rail Park here in Vermilion and banged off a few shots.

13. & 14. the trusty 29P is westbound with NS 4292 and 4826 as they approach the Rail Park shelter.

15. Immediately after the marker of 29P cleared, 16N burst into view. I hardly had time to react as NS 4896 and 4305 led the tonnage east.

16. - 18. Last up before hiking back home for lunch is 37M (Conway, PA to Bedford Park, IL - BRC) with NS 4938 leading and UP 8211 as a mid-train DPU. The sumacs are now starting to show color. the season is beginning to change, but Fall is still not really "in the air".

Just for fun here is the lunar eclipse moon about midnight Thursday the 27th.
