Don't hang your whites out on the line at Shenandoah Jct.

Honest, there is a 100 car coal train behind CSX 901 ... somewhere.  ;-)

Other trains from yesterday:

This brings back memories from my childhood! One Sunday afternoon my dad took my brither and I to look for a train, probably in the mid to late 89’s. There was a little drive in east of Blandon, PA along the then Conrail Reading Line. We got a soft serve cone each and went to the Agway to see a train we knew was coming east. Long story short I had finished my come fast but my little brother was slower. The train was a coal drag off the Chessie somewhere, and by the time it passed my brother’s cone was coated in coal dust!!!

I thought railroads were supposed to control coal dust?  That's actually a serious thing because coal dust is well know to cause lung disease.  I'd hate to live near that.  It also fouls the ballast which then takes more maintenance to keep the line in good shape.

The producers are required to put dust controlling fluids on the coal...but some fail badly...either the tank is empty and no one notices or they just forget to turn the system on.

Thanks for that explaination as I was wondering why also.

Black Lung Disease Express!  If you look at pictures Dave and I have posted on TO, you will see that it only occasionally looks that bad, but there is almost always some dust in the air.  The current H&HS Administration Secretary would probably say it's good for the economy to keep coal cheaper, so "dig, baby, dig."  Gerry

Thanks, Dave.  According to https://railroadfan.com/wiki/index.php?title=NS_Train_Symbols#100_Series_-_Manifest 14N is an Enola to Norfolk daily manifest.  I have never heard that symbol.  Gerry

Explains why when we were in the caboose we kept the windows closed. Or when we were on a helper we kept the windows closed even during the summer if we could. Saw many of these coal dust clouds, often wondered what it may have done to our lungs.

I think 14N is a replacement for 274.

14N was 275.
15N was 274.
