National Rly Equipment Bldr Plate on USAX 4653

Here's a look at National Railway Equipment's builder plate on rebuilt US Army (USAX reporting marks) GP40-2 4653. Builder plate was applied at Dixmoor, IL, in January 2004. The ex-CSXT 6807, eex-L&N GP-40 3011 unit was built by EMD in 1967. Rebuild date reads 1-04.

USAX rebuilt GP40-2 4653 was at Colorado Springs, CO, on January 23, 2004. It was delivered by Union Pacific to Fort Carson, CO, on or about January 27th.

4653 looks red and white in the photo; all the other current Army GP's are red and yellow.

Is 4653 red and white or red and yellow?

Looks yellowish to me.

I lke it! With the expense of new locos going way up, I wouldn't be shocked to see the Paducah shop return to its glory days. Business will also pick up soon because of NRE's ownership of the shops.

Try mustard yellow

The unit is red and mustard yellow. Not bright yellow as other Army units.
