Amtrak Roadrailers on NS Triple Crown.
Author: Thoroughbred-Ed

Saw about two dozen Amtrak roadrailers,
in the middle of a westbound Norfolk Southern
Triple Crown train at Leipsic, Ohio today
11-28-04 about 4:00 p.m.

Leipsic is on NS, NKP main line between
Bellevue, Ohio and Ft. Wayne, Ind.

What is the reason for Amtrak roadrailers
on this train?

Thanks,

Eddie Durnwald
Fostoria, Ohio

I believe Amtrak sold them to NS since they are no longer needed to carry mail and express. Were they the plain white roadrailers or the side-door roadrailers in Phase 4 paint?

Wish I could answer your question.
Wanted to take a picture, but was out
of digital memory. Just one of those days.

If I can remember right,
they where just plain white roadrailers.

I saw 4-5 near the end of NS 264 through lexington, KY yesterday. These were the silver trailers with blue stripe. Also of interest were 3 container chassies (the name of these escapes me) at the end of the train.

I was at the Fort Wayne Carrier Transicold dealer last week and they were repairing the refrigeration unit on a former Expresstrak (spelling?) reefer now wearing Triple Crown logos. I assume TC bought some of these too.
