Getting Lucky at Nicholson
Author: SVTS

Well over 20 years ago, my parents took me to see the Nicholson Viaduct, north of Scranton Pa. Yesterday, while driving to Pocono, I wanted to go by there, for the first time since, just to get a picture of it. It really is a impressive structure. So we stopped for a minute, got a few photos and read the marker, than got back in the car, and got ready to leave. As I put the car in drive, my wife looked at me in disbelief, wondering why I wasn't waiting for a train. I explained to her that the line only sees a couple trains a day, and we could wait there all day and not see a single one. No sooner than I said that, and she calmly said "Okay, than whose headlights are those on the bridge?" UP SD 70 4274 leads 2 NS units over the bridge, with a manifest train. Note the crew had a american flag attached to the cab, seeing how this particular unit did not have the painted on flag. Sorry for the poor photos, it was a bit foggy and overcast in the valley. But I take what I can get with a location such as this!

There is usually a dozen or more a day on this line now during a 24 hr period. That probably was the 412 you saw there.
