Atlas Alco S-2 - San Francisco Belt Railroad
Author: fjc

With the abundance of fine models hitting the store shelves, it's a matter of time until someone produces a favorite model each of us may have. In my case I've always wanted to model the San Francisco Belt Railroad Alco S-2's, #23, 25 & 49 (Painted in 49ers color type scheme and lettered for Port of San Francisco), though I never did seem to get around to actually modeling these units. The hardest, well perhaps most time consuming job would be the application of the chevrons used on the nose of the long hood, pilots, lower half of the cab and steps. Well wait no longer, Atlas has produced a fine example of this locomotive in HO scale, and have selected to do models of #23 and 25. The model is a very good representation of the prototype with only minor flaws, on a whole though I give this model high marks and a hats off to Atlas for finally producing something I can relate to.

Here are a few photos, enjoy.

Frank

Those look great - what kind of couplers do they come with?

Looks Great Frank!

As for me, I'm still waiting for my #25 to arrive at my local shop. It'll look great in front of those Walthers Pier buildings!

Saved again - If they had been lettered for the State Belt Railroad, that would have fallen in my modeling era and I might have been forced to buy one (or both)

Looks like a McHenry type, though I don't use the plastic type couplers, I will change them out to Kadee #58's.

Exactly right. "San Francisco Belt Line" marks them as post 1969. The color scheme, assuming that you could erase the name, marks them as post 1960. If you want WWII or much of the transition era, Belt Line locos are black and white.
