ummmm I think we have a problem
Author: WrongWayMurphy

St.L.S-W ten wheeler prepares to leave past AVW FA2 and FB2

A problem develops during the journey - wonder what the lad in the foreground was thinking?

Last weekend near Fort Worth, an event hosting about 100 foster children from the area.

Thank you. Yes the kids did have a good time. Some were a little rowdy as is to be expected but, I can tell you they never had this experience before so, it was nice to do this for them. I had 24 people (including about 4 adults) on one train and that and 13 cars kinda taxed that 4-6-0 a little bit. That thing was shouting to the high heavens! Including weight of the cars we had to be pulling around 3800 to 4000 lbs. On level ground it was not bad but, leaving a passing track on a curve and a 1% grade was pretty doggone tough!

My grandmother (whose father was a Cotton Belt brakeman) always told me, as her father told her, that the MKT was "that road with square wheels and wooden axles." Judging by the Katy's ability to derail standing still, I'd assume it was the Katy just being the Katy. Turn that to a Milwaukee or SSW gondola, and I bet you have no more trouble! :)

(and in case you were wondering, tounge firmly in cheek, although my grandmother really does say that)

Not only that Bradley, the Katy was known to have standing cars derail! I personally witnessed one do it in Cisco, Tx in 1960. It was a SP 50 ft box car that gave out a loud "twaaaaaaang" as the rail spread out from under it. It stayed on the ties for about a week before a gang came and re-railed it.

In addition to wondering about the lad in the foreground, I wonder what the second passenger in the fifth photo was DOING...

A picture is worth a thousand words, LOL!!
