DT&I Gondola

I've been fiddling with this Walthers 53' Thrall Gondola for some time. I added a Walthers steel coil load and did some modest weathering with AIM Products powders and some Tamiya "rubs". I can't bear to make a gondola as scuzzy as many of them get to be, so this must be a newer car that's not too thrashed yet, with a "new" date of 11-71.

Actually, for a coil gon, I think that's about right on the weathering. Gons in coil-steel service don't get nearly as thrashed as ones assigned to scrap-metal service.

Here is one that my father caught going through Santa Barbara in 1977.

Nice job on the weathering. It gives it the look that it has been used, but not excessively weathered and beaten up.

Here's a sister ex DTI car still running around in late 2009. This particular car was formerly DTI 9619 and is now being used to carry large chunks of rock in the PA area, but many others are still in coil steel service.
