Model Railroading > Intermountain SP Woodchip cars.

I just found out Intermountain announced SP smooth side woodchip cars. Anyone know if this is new tooling or the old E&C Shops/LBF car? Any other details?

The cars are not new tooling. Intermountain is bringing out the lower priced products based on tooling that was acquired by them.

I spoke with IMRC, just new bolsters, trucks, and kadee couplers. Old tooling.

No reason then to sell my old E&C shops cars then. Wish they would have upgrade the detail parts and underframe a little, otherwise there is little incentive to buy.

Looks like the old cheapie E&C molds.

Its a shame yea! I have a hunch Exactrail will do some different SP woodchip cars at some point.

As much as I would like someone else to do the cars, there are more common woodchip cars that have never been done before.

Good to hear the SP slab side is back, E&C had it molded in an odd Chocolate brown color though. Hopefully I-Mtn corrects the color.

The ribbed chip car had ribbing a bit too thin. I had seen some kit-bashes by removing the ribs and using styrene in place.

I'm not complaining about a decent representation of a popular SP car. Hope it works out ok. Curious what the dates on the prototype Oregon Duck cars would be.

The Oregon Universities and DARE cars were done way back in the early days of the Willamette & Pacific RR. Probably 1993 or 1994.

Betting the new "cheaper" line of coal cars are the same LBF molds they're promoting too. At least they have trucks/wheels:)

I only have one of the E&C but it's still good to see then being offered again.

Here are the DARE and OREGON STATE cars along with the Portland & Western steam engine. I guess it would be called a mixed freight/passenger.

This would make a neat, small, train that would run as a special. No chip loading or unloading facilities would be needed on the layout.

It would be nice to just see the Intermountain GS gons done in the late 1970's SP scheme and in the correct plywood and board versions. The cars they offered as chip cars were actually beet gons in disguise. These were very common cars up to the end of chip service. The old Ambroid 1 of 5,000 car is another good candidate.
