Model Railroading > Hobby King, San Diego?Date: 06/02/16 02:33 Hobby King, San Diego? Author: BN7023 This Train-Miniature boxcar was gotten a month ago with a NMRA 1974 San Diego Convention car. It is written on the sides "Creative Activities for the Family" and "Return to San Diego When Empty." Any one know the Hobby King.

I bought many TM/Walthers cars back in the day, but don't even look at them any longer because they just don't compare to today's (much more expensive) models. The hobby has really matured.

Author: Wildebeest A quick search led me to http://ho-scaletrains.net/id50.html where the cover of a Train Miniature catalog shows an address on Center St. (now Center Drive) in the industrial part of La Mesa (a suburb just east of San Diego), between downlown La Mesa and Grossmont Center. There was also a hobby shop located on Center St. just across the street from Handyman (now Dixieline Lumber), in the 1960s and '70s. I believe its name was Hobby King and I recall hearing at the time that there was a managerial or ownership connection between the two.

I tried flipping through the pages of the old RMC magazine. In my hand there is not so much. Among them, I found the following three ads in the July 1976 issue. Train-Miniature, Mini-City, and whopping Hobby King! Hobby King, the logo to match. The address was Long Beach, California. Surviving years of the shop are not known. If RMC magazine give me the launch of all issues DVD, will clearly. It should be noted that the Mini-City also has released a commemorative model. Edited 2 time(s).
