Model Railroading > Very costly disaster/derailment on a high bridge over riverDate: 04/13/17 22:29 Very costly disaster/derailment on a high bridge over river Author: SP_cadillacs I was running my HO Scale manifest with a Union Pacific C45ACCTE and 18 cars, coming around the curve on a bridge over the river when all of a sudden cars #13, 14 and 15 fell off the bridge into the river below. Three other cars were behind them but stayed on the rails. It was a mystery as to what happened, and it was definitely not a stringlining.

It happened right at the bridge, just fell of just like that. Very strange.

Tom Y Date: 04/14/17 07:06 Re: Very costly disaster/derailment on a high bridge over river Author: tomstp Well get the track foreman, the bridge gang foreman, car inspector foreman, road foreman of engines and another offical and set the cause. They can all start blaming each other and finally come with the cause of the wreck. There was apparently a rock remaining in what was supposed to be empty hoppers and it fell out on the rail and caused the derailment. They all go home not fearing to be fired.
And, that's tha twooth!. Pfhhhhhhhhhhhhhht ! Date: 04/14/17 07:39 Re: Very costly disaster/derailment on a high bridge over river Author: Chestnut Well atleast it wasn't brass.

Probably nothing but the track foreman spotted 4 white specs between the rail and guardrail from the air. He'll investigate when he reaches the scene. Date: 04/14/17 12:32 Re: Very costly disaster/derailment on a high bridge over river Author: exhaustED SP_cadillacs Wrote:

About a year or two ago, an empty coal train had a bunch of its aluminum buckets blown off the bridge at Abo Canyon in NM. During the cleanup, an opposing stack train passed on the other bridge and it lost a few of its top-containers. The docks forgot to engage the twistlocks and it rained steel.
