1500 I have been fooling with............
Author: ESPEE5318

I use to think SP had two basic versions of 1500s, the more I research the more variations I find. One of the problems with modeling (for me) is things get more and more extreme this started out as just assembling and painting the RTR 1500 with a few better detail parts I'm at the point that it is going to be all out to the best of my ability. This has been sitting years waiting on cut lever pilot notches and recently I finished that and then some, scale coupler boxes, fuel tank rework, flag holders (still need the cab ones), handrail oversize lugs removed and replaced (still an few to install), radiator fan area opened up, cast brake ratchet reworked, pilot sheet reshaped/step configuration change, more radiator parts should be ready next week...........Joe

That is some clean work so far! Where did you source the door handles?

It's great to see you posting some model photos Joe! As usual, it shows sharp, clean work. Athearn's SW1500 has always been a nice little model, and the improvements you're making will bring it to the "next level." SP's cruds exhibited a few subtle changes over their production run, one of which is the equipment doors under the cab as modeled by Athearn. The ones on the left side sit a bit proud of the surface, a change reflected somewhere in the high 2500s. Looking forward to seeing more photos of this as you make progess.

They are OMI which are no longer available, I don't think it would be hard to make look alikes with some brass rod bent 90 and some filing shaping etc when I run out of OMI's that's what I will start doing....would not surprise me it there is something else that would work from one of the brass casting company's that I'm just not aware of, I like to use them on the generator access door on second gen EMDs............Joe

Had me scared for a moment had not noticed that, I'm doing one from the last order with self aligning couplers so I'm good on the equipment doors. Other things I have noticed the door to the left of the ratchet they used 3 different doors over the years of construction, 3 different pilot sheet shapes over the years of construction.

Stellar work so far Joe. Based on the masterpieces you've completed in the past, this little switcher is in good hands for the super detailing to come. Can't wait to see it progress through the upcoming stages!

I did not know the KV parts existed until yesterday, would of saved me some time but I'm 80% there on radiator parts at this point....Joe
