This model came together quickly and started as a challenge from a fellow modeler. I had a year or so to complete his challenge but I decided to finish it off in about 8 weeks.

Rail Power Products SD45-2 Shell
Kato SD40-2 Chassis
Cannon Fans
Cannon Sub Base
Kato SD40-2 Dynamic Hatch
Etched steps
Hood end off a Big Dawg Shell (his stuff pretty much stinks, but I had the shell, and decided to hack it up)

And here are the completed images after painting and weathering and the installation of a sound decoder!

Tell me how you did the handrails.

Well done.

A Cannon EMD high nose conversion kit can be used for a finer detailed short hood.

The handrails are Smokey Valley stanchions and custom bent phosphor bronze wire. Each side piece is one long piece bent as I went along.

Yup! Did that on my 5514 model a few years back. I had the Big Dawg shell and did a considerable amount of work on it before I discovered it was too warped to use.
