Model Railroading > Northern California Fires - PBLDate: 10/11/17 10:51 Northern California Fires - PBL Author: UPJeff Has any one heard if PBL has avoided the fires or did they have to evacuate?
Jeff Smith Lakewood, CA RailMaster Hobbies Date: 10/11/17 11:58 Re: Northern California Fires - PBL Author: Cupolau Most of the fires in that county are east of Ukiah. Since they have a P.O.Box number it's difficult to determine where they're located. They have a phone number listed on their website. I hope they're okay. Great people that offer quality models.

Look on the Cal Fire map, they are just east of the Montgomery Woods.

Date: 10/11/17 15:36 Re: Northern California Fires - PBL Author: BAB Stack houses that close together, add dry brush and grass close to the developments and you have a disaster in the making. Houses that close together with wind like it was there is no way to stop it.
Date: 10/11/17 15:51 Re: Northern California Fires - PBL Author: MojaveBill There are places in this land where structures should not be built. The rest of us pay for this through insurance, extinguishing these fires, and cleaning-up the floods.

NorCal is NOT the desert. SoCal is. These fires are in NorCal. Date: 10/11/17 18:21 Re: Northern California Fires - PBL Author: SPDRGWfan PHall Wrote:

Maybe not technically but I grew up in Davis with an annual yearly rainfall of about 19 inched. Davis is in northen Californis just west of Sacramento and was very dry in summer months. A desert is defined as 10 inches or less. Grass fires were always a risk and fireworks forbidden. Posted from Android Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/11/17 18:22 by SPDRGWfan. It's difficult to keep this on topic. Let's hope for the best, and prepare for the worst. And when they build them close as those were there is no way you can stop a wind blown fire from taking many if not all homes out. And that along with brush up to the sub divisions boarders does nothing but help burn things to the ground. MojaveBill was throwing rocks at the people who are in fire prone or flood areas. Because of his name I was subtlety pointing out that he too has others paying for his ability to live where he wants to live. By the way, I would bet that most of the people who have been devastated by the fire in Santa Rosa NEVER thought that the fire departments would be so helpless in stopping fires like this in their city. It's one thing to be living in a rural area with dry brush or forest all around you. You understand that there is a risk. But you would think your risk to wildfire would be low to non-existant living in the middle of suburbia. There's going to be a lot of lessions learned and changes in building codes from these fires. Date: 10/12/17 10:59 Re: Northern California Fires - PBL Author: UPJeff So, all the posts yet only mentions that Jim Booth was in NY. No other news from PBL? I have emailed them and have not heard from them.

AT&T and PG&E have a major restoration job ahead of them to restore power and communications in this area. For example, over 700 Cell Towers were damaged/destroyed. They probably haven't replied because they have no power or communications. I talked with him some 20 odd years ago when i purchased my resistance soldering outfit from them.
