Model Railroading > Report on Model Railroad Open House in DelawareDate: 11/20/17 18:32 Report on Model Railroad Open House in Delaware Author: Tominde Delaware has a nicely coordinate model railroad open house program in November. http://modelrailroadopenhouse.com/ It's been going on for at least Although I now model G gauge in the back yard I used to do HO and I am currently helping a young man build his first HO layout.
This is just a very small sampling of the railroads from the Wilmington, DE area. This area was served by PRR, B&O, and Reading. These are favorites among local modelers. Photography is often not best during open house. I used an old pocket point and shoot camera. 1. Bob Koury. A very new layout and very rare to see Southern Pacific modeled in Delaware. 2. Still under construction but trains are running. 3. Plans Date: 11/20/17 18:34 Re: Report on Model Railroad Open House in Delaware Author: Tominde Date: 11/20/17 18:39 Re: Report on Model Railroad Open House in Delaware Author: Tominde 6. Don Richard PRR
7. Perryman, MD Don tries to capture the feel of specific locations 8. I can't remember where on Don's layout, but I sure do remember watching GG1s start a long heavy freight and hearing relays "popping". 13. Harrisburg, PA. Yes PRR used electric switchers 14. Harrisburg I believe (oh my that's lot's of nice stuff) Date: 11/20/17 19:10 Re: Report on Model Railroad Open House in Delaware Author: Tominde 12. Philly
13, East Broad Top narrow gauge (with some "borrowed" motive power running. 14. Now this is control. (how do I get it upright? It's fine on my laptop) I'll do another day of tour in a separate thread. Date: 11/20/17 20:02 Re: Report on Model Railroad Open House in Delaware Author: Kemacprr Charlie was one of a few model railroaders who long before DCC had a really unbelievable dc control system. They are called Steppers basically a powered multi deck rotary switch that were once used by Ma Bell in their switching centers. Since they were designed by Bell they were designed to last almost forever .The late Charlie Carangi's PRR also used steppers. Charlie Grants railroad is amazing for all the old school technology that he uses and it all works !! A working hump yard with automatic turnout control and working air retarders . Trolleys with opening doors and moving steps in HO that run under wire on street trackage automatically. Cat wire everywhere with motors with pans that actually touch the wire . An amazing railroad to see. --- Ken
