Model Railroading > Custom Butt HeadsDate: 12/10/17 19:15 Custom Butt Heads Author: Skuat Guys here are some shots of some custom Atlas MP15's that I finished up recently for a buddy of mine's private road, the High River Railroad. I designed the paint scheme and the logos and then had the decals printed by Precision Design Co. out of Canada. The smaller warning labels and other data was cobbled together off a variety of Microscale sets. The details on the units are pretty much stock and the weathering was done with some airbrushing and washes with artists oils. The daylight pics were taken on a diorama outside under natural sunlight. The night shots were taken on a portion of an old club layout that I have, my dad and I did the scenery about 15 years ago, flashbulb lighting was provided by an iPhone flashlight, and no the crew didn't get mad.

Nice work, Skuat! Cheers, Harry Date: 12/11/17 10:52 Re: Custom Butt Heads Author: sixaxlecentury I have heard the term from employees in the Norfolk area.
Date: 12/11/17 18:00 Re: Custom Butt Heads Author: fbe High River, AB is a nice almost quiet town south of Calgary which could use a shortline to rebuild the abandoned CP tracks between Ft McCleod and Calgary. The line has bedn washed out and pulled up so this may take a while, MP15s would be a good start.
Tim Horton's in High River has always been a long wait every morning I have tried to stop in. Date: 12/11/17 18:58 Re: Custom Butt Heads Author: 1019X "Butt Head" was what Southern Railway Mechanical employees called end cab switchers around Chattanooga 40 years ago.

Many railroaders called them that...even a lot of the SCL and L&N guys I use to work with. Makes no sense to me why Southern employees would call them that since at the time just about all of there locos were long hood forward designated as the front and just as easily could have been called buttheads too. As info, they are called that because the cab usually the cab is usually at the head of the locomotive....that which has the stenciled "F" (or Forward/front) on the frame. But since MP and SW locos have the cab at the rear or "butt" of the locomotive frame in comparison to where that "F" is, well....hence the name. I guess it's a regional thing! Cheers, Harry Date: 12/11/17 22:08 Re: Custom Butt Heads Author: Hookdragkick Sharp motors! And the famous RBOXs!

The Railboxes make for pretty good photo props, always nice to have them around the shop whenever I need some background filler. I posted some shots of them last year... https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?3,4021199,4021199#msg-4021199 Thanks for the compliments on the paint scheme as well, glad it got a positive response, especially from the owner!
