DC power pack recommendations?
Author: MC6853

With Rapido Trains' recent announcement of the B36-7 in HO, I've been considering buying one of their existing products to see how it performs... In particular, I have had my eye on the C40-8M...

But I read on the Rapido site tonight that they don't recommend using train-set DC power packs with any of their models as it can cause permanent damage... The site specifically mentions the MRC 1300 controller, which is what one loop of my layout uses... An MRC 2400 powers the other...

So obviously I need to buy at least one new power pack, but don't have any idea of what would be suitable... Is there anyone on here using DC that can help by providing their recommendations? Thanks very much in advance...

I would highly recommend the MRC Tech 7 Ampac 760 which has a momentum option that works quite well on DC locomotives. If you want to add sound, check out the Soundbox by Kato. Several demonstrations on YouTube. If you have a small or medium sized layout it works out great. I added three small speakers on my
12'x 16' layout which can give out a very loud sound.

I think that Rapido recommends not using a DC power pack with one of their sound-equipped models.

I agree. Have been using one for a couple years.
