Model Railroading > GATX tank cars from the 1950'sDate: 04/13/18 11:16 GATX tank cars from the 1950's Author: Fiftyfooter GATX tank cars: built by Charles Smiley over the last few weeks for a SP oil train!
The first 4 tank cars in the line are old Varney kits from the 1950s. They have all metal Stirrup steps, grab irons and things like polling-pockets and Kadee sprung trucks and Kadee couplers. New paint and old Champ HT-70 GATX decals. They have a 1956 decal date. Since that's the year I model I will just say that these are new (or refurbished) cars and not 'weather' them much more that a little dust on the trucks. These cars left little room for the GATX letters so I reverted to 'stacking' the letters above the numbers. These look as good as my Lambert brass cars of the same size and era. The 4 cars took about 5 days total to finish. Date: 04/14/18 06:51 Re: GATX tank cars from the 1950's Author: Hookdragkick Pro-work! That is a great looking block of tanks.
