planing on adding steam loco museum to layout ideas.

Since I collected most of the steam locomotives that are still in use id like to build a museum type of area. I have not seen anyone show or mention what worked for them on a modern era layout. Any suggestion or pics would be great help. Thanks all robert162

Portland, OR has a facility for SP&S 700, SP 4449, another smaller steamer and a couple of diesels. That would provide a good prototype to work from. Most times everything is kept under the roof though some days the steamers can be brought outdoors into Oregon's limited sunshine.

Thanks I was also looking at Jerry Jacobs (RIP mr Jacobs) sugar creek age of steam. Since I have about 20 engines i would like to show off and would add operational possibilities

That number of locomotives might make it more like Spencer, NC with a full roundhouse.

That's a great way to display your brass steam engines that don't run well on your layout. It also allows them to be around on a more modern layout.

Very good idea. You might want to consider a couple of other options hat would include operation.

1. An occasional mainline steam excursion with a mix of vintage passenger cars.

2. A movie special. As a Train Coordinator with nearly 50 years of movie train experience I will give a couple of examples.

Pic 1 A special train pulled by BNSF climbs the east approach to the Huey Long Bridge in New Orleans on the way to a short line location in Raceland, LA for the movie Jonah Hex in 2009.

Pic 2 A trackage rights BNSF rock train passes the True Grit Movie train on the UP at Granger, TX in 2010.
