Anyone ever convert a Hobbytown loco to DCC. If so, any guidance shared would be appreciated. Would love to see a how to book dedicated to Hobbytown drives.

Not so different from old Athearns. Isolate the motor and add insulate wipers for all-wheel pickup. If it's old enough for an open-frame motor, check the current draw, and maybe look around for a more modern replacement.

Digitrax sells a non sound decoder that can handle four amps continuously, and a six amp surge. http://www.digitrax.com/products/mobile-decoders/dh465/

What is the stall current on your Hobbytown of Boston Beast?

I have checked a few of the F-unit chassis for a friend of mine, and since the motors were REAL Pittman motors (not the Japanese knockoffs) the stall current was only 1.1 Amperes! So before you change the motors it is worth checking them out completely.
