Exact Rail 5277 Waffle Box NS 412350
Author: NS7214

I finished this car a couple weeks ago, I changed out doors using Tony Sissons cast resin doors, the door latches are custom made using brass. I changed out the stirrups with Details Associates to fit the series I renumbered the car to. Weathered with Pan Pastels and dull coated. I also installed Sergent couplers with my custom cut levers using hand bent 0.015" wire and used Kadee air house for a new trainline with 0.032" brass rod ran back through to the bolster, Precision Scale brackets were used to mount the angle cock and brass rod to on the right side of the draft gear box. A few slight modifications breaks up the monotony of the waffle side 5277 fleet.

Looks great! I rebuilt the doors on one of those a few years ago and removing the plastic at the bottom of the door was a supreme PIA because of the floor & weight on the inside of the car. Well done!

Beautiful work. I really love the overall finished model, especially the paint and weathering.

It wasn't a fun task performing the needed surgery on it, that's for sure lol. ER did a fine job on these cars but I wish they could have done separate doors with a few optional doors, but i guess like most projects they reached the budget. Either way I won't complain because these were much needed cars in the hobby.

Thank you all for the great feedback!

For what it's worth, ExactRail still has several latter day versions of the 5277 waffle box that would fit the conspicuity strip era or earlier. They are $32.99 while the last run of Southern waffles were priced at $44.99

So if you are a modern modeler - those waffles would fit and are still in stock.

Cheers, Jim
