Model Railroading > BNSF Grain train make up ?Date: 12/02/18 14:08 BNSF Grain train make up ? Author: calsubd Proto typical make up using a BNSF SD70ACe, BNSF SD40-2 (B) unit, and Santa Fe SD60, would BNSF run the B unit as a pusher, or would it be up front with the ACe, or does it matter ?, TIA
Ed Stewart Jacksonville, FL Date: 12/02/18 14:16 Re: BNSF Grain train make up ? Author: highgreengraphics I have never seen a B-unit as a pusher, at least since F-units and they were in-consist and not alone, so I'd say much more typical up front. === === = === JLH

Date: 12/02/18 14:56 Re: BNSF Grain train make up ? Author: fbe The only unit with DPU capability would be the ACe unit. Neither of the other locomotives could operate in DP mode so all 3 units would be in consist on the point.
Date: 12/02/18 15:02 Re: BNSF Grain train make up ? Author: PHall The SD40-2B's usually are working in the yards. They're all Remote Control Equipped and can be used as "Belt Pack" engines.

Date: 12/02/18 15:27 Re: BNSF Grain train make up ? Author: funnelfan There are no "B" units out there that were DPU capable that I can think of. You would need a something like a BNSF CW44-9, AC4400, ES44AC, ES44DC, ES44C4, ES44T4, SD70MAC or SD70ACE as a DPU locomotive on the rear (not all CW44-9's and SD70MACs were DPU capable). Now you could do a 2x2 DPU with a "B" unit attached to one of the units above on the rear of the train, but that would have been very rare in real life.

Its a 6 axle SD60M, maybe a Athearn Fooby , Santa Fe #241, Thanks for your help on this Ed Stewart Jacksonville, FL Date: 12/02/18 15:49 Re: BNSF Grain train make up ? Author: NSTopHat calsubd Wrote:

AT&SF bought SD75M's and SD75I's, all in the 200 series. Russ Date: 12/02/18 16:25 Re: BNSF Grain train make up ? Author: CSX602 Santa Fe #241 would have been a SD75M and the Athearn Genesis model is right on (certainly not a fooby)... Shortly after BNSF merger the Santa Fe delivered SD75Ms 200-250 (Santa Fe Warbonnet) became BNSF 8200-8250 numbered right below the BNSF delivered SD75M and SD75I units (8251-8301 deliverd in BNSF Warbonnet).
Date: 12/02/18 17:19 Re: BNSF Grain train make up ? Author: sarailfan SD40-2s were pretty much gone from BNSF mainlines by the time SD70ACe's came on the scene. A C44 or ES44 would be much more suitable power.

Thanks again for your help, I did not get the box with this model, (I'll check my friend to see if he still has it) , and Thanks to all for the Grain train help !!, Much Appreciated Ed Stewart Jacksonville, FL Date: 12/02/18 21:32 Re: BNSF Grain train make up ? Author: MC6853 Others are right, only the ACe would have DPU...
But how about this: It's your railroad, run whatever you like... |
