Marklin has a diesel with motorized fans on top
Author: inCHI

Just came across a video of a new Marklin release of the German Federal Railroad (DB) class V 320 that is part of their "insiders club". They managed to stick in two little motors that two "A/C fans", which is how they described them in a translated video called "Märklin TV Extra - Episode 26". Is that the first engine to have this? Funny thing is they say there was only one V 320 produced. The preorder price I see from Reynaulds is $469.99. I'm not surprised by that as all of the newer European locomotive models are quite a bit higher priced than US models and they did seem to cram a lot into it.

Proto 2000 used to have an ALCo FA years ago the used a rubber band off the flywheel to drive the fan. ESU in Europe had a diesel a few years ago that had four powered fans.

It may not be too difficult to etch or engrave the static parts of tiny motors into a circuit board which lays beneath the fan housings. The fanblades could be mounted on a shaft to function as a bearing in the circuit board. A flat plate under the bottom of the blades could rotate the blades when the fans would be on. Don't drop or jar the models, though.

ESU has several diesel models in their European models with operating fans. http://www.esu.eu/en/products/engineering-edition/dieselloks-in-h0/class-v200-in-h0/

Unfortunately, their new SD40-2 does not seem to have working fans. http://www.esu.eu/en/products/engineering-edition/diesel-locomotives-in-h0/class-sd40-2-in-h0/

That is because their new SD40-2 is actually made by ScaleTrains.
