Model Railroading > MTH SD70Ace w Sound and Tech 6 power pack question.Date: 12/17/18 03:31 MTH SD70Ace w Sound and Tech 6 power pack question. Author: WLE2679 Hello-
I recently bought a HO scale MTH SD70Ace with the proto sound in Wabash heritage 1070 paint. I don't have many MTH products, but this is the only unit that the sound doesn't work on the Tech 6 power pack. I ran the unit with another DC power pack and the sound works. Is there something I need to do to the unit to make it run with sound on the tech 6 power pack? Thank you for the help. Date: 12/18/18 07:15 Re: MTH SD70Ace w Sound and Tech 6 power pack question. Author: Trains4Brains I would test the output voltage of both transformers. It sounds like the Tech 6 isn't putting out enough voltage.

MTH does not use on as the default. You will probably need to turn on the sound by pushing a function button like F8 on the Tech 6. MRC might have a Tech 6 online support group where MTH ptoblems are covered.

Author: fbe I don't think it is an MRC problem but is more likely an MTH issue with their non standard DCS system. Most of the problems which give MTH such a horrible repution can be solved by following the MTH instructions to the letter. I have a couple of their MILW Bipolars I bought at swap meets thinking I just might have to replace their DCS decoders with common DCC sound decoders. By following the instructions included with the models both work well.

Once I ran it with the Kato power pack in DC, it then worked with the MRC power pack in DC mode. I switched it to DCC as it was running in DC mode with the tech 6 and it has run fine for the last hour. I am not sure as to why, maybe something just needed reset. I have an ES44 and a group of GP35's and I didn't have an issue with them at all.
