Has anyone applied a textured surface to tank cars?
Author: Ski

Many tank cars in special service had a sprayed on insulation before being replaced by metal covering. I haven’t tried it yet but was wondering what would be a good product to apply the rough finish that the cars had. This would be in HO scale, has anyone had success in reproducing this on a model?
Thanks

Haven't seen a car like that in ages, but you could sprinkle on some plaster dust on wet paint and then apply another coat of paint.

There was on article in Model Railroader about using spray adhesive to make a stucco texture for buildings. Wonder if that would work for this?

I saw a model at prototype modelers meet where a modeler took a bottle floquil white paint and sprayed the model with the unthinned paint at a high psi. Used the entire bottle on one car. The effect was highly realistic.
